I gave myself a week away from posting. It was the longest week and full of tears. Our Kasper J Bentley “Tater tot” passed away last Sunday. He had slowed down a lot since his birthday in May. And in typical Kasper fashion he got sick on a Sunday. He was well known to get sick on a weekend or holiday. I rather not remember that day. So I thought I’ld share some happy times that we had with our 12 year old best friend.
It all started when I moved into our house in 2002. I was still living at home with lots of boxes. And he fell in love with a giant ape as a puppy.
He was very handsome in our wedding.
He loved my parents pond. He flew off the dock for his toys. Kasper would meticulously clean up any leaf on the pond for his grandparents.
He dressed as a bee for one halloween. He also fainted for about a minute when he got stung by a bee.
He suffered from Turkey Delirium at Thanksgiving and had to be controlled.
Kasper loved the stuffed Hippos from Disney’s Animal Kingdom. I think this was his third one.
He was super handsome
And very fashionable and the best listener. Although he was hyper he had a nice quiet side. If I was sick he always laid with me or if I had a bad day he knew and would always lend an ear.
This was his favorite spot for his deputy dog duties
Riding in the car was another favorite because that meant he was going to grandma and grandpa’s. Right before we hit their driveway he would start dancing in circles.
Winter was his favorite season. He loved snow and doing happy dances. We have tons of pics with floppy ears.
He took napping seriously
Bruce built a porthole in the fence for him so he good take his deputy dog duties more seriously.
He started off hating the vacuum and it only grew as he got older. The last year he would take all his toys and protect them and bark at the vaccuum wand.
We have tons of blurred pics of Kasper from the last 12 years because he was the fastest runner ever.
He was the best first dog any couple could have and I can say that even after eating our first couch. I still cry every day because I miss him and his goofiness. We got a few new friends this week. We think its only appropriate that we need four new guys to fill the quiet left in the house. I’ll let you meet our new family members in a couple days. Right now I got a big black furry someone leaning on me and putting his head on my laptop.
So hug your dogger extra strong for me today. Dogs are a gift to be treasured and loved. Appreciate every moment you have with them. And thanks to all of our friends and family who have been there with us this week and to Bruce the best husband and dog parent in the world. It feels like an end of an era. We’re ready for the next one and so thankful that Kasper will be in our hearts forever.
