It’s been a rough go of it for Lil Ole’ Meg. She’s missed her friend Tank. She had a batch of getting sick after he passed. She’s been feeling better and hanging out with BoBo our friend’s black lab mix on play dates.
Bruce and I are just getting over Tank ourselves. We saw our local SPCA had a 6 years or older free adoption which was interesting prospect. Then my dad pointed out a great old guy that we thought would be a good fit. We went and visited him. He was eight years old and was a happy go lucky who needed just a wiggle butt scratch.
We had to bring Nutmeg for a meet and greet. She immediately loved him. Wanted to give him kisses and welcome him on into the family. He was all about us and didn’t care about her. We were all ready to take him home. When the lady said ohhh I’m unsure. He gave out a growl at her and all bets were off.
I don’t know how I feel about it yet. Her thoughts he was too grumpy for her and might be a bad influence on Nutmeg. My thought is how well can you tell if two dogs get along within an hour meet. Personally, I think it would take them awhile to get into a groove and get to know each other? Then I go with she’s the expert. Where does that leave the eight year old sweet dog looking for a home. I say our farm is better than a cage? So I feel like Meg. I remember when you could just go into the pound and say I want that one with the waggly tale and off you went with your new dog. I understand regulations for we do have crazies out there but are we at the point we have too many regulations. Sooo a 15 acre farm with an owner home 24-7 and a friendly dog isn’t the right fit where does that leave some of the dogs who are really difficult to place? We looked at another dog there and he was so shy he couldn’t even get within 4 feet of us? So no new friend for Meg. We may just get another puppy. At least it’s summer and we won’t have to potty train in the arctic. If you know of a friendly lab or lab mix looking for a home we may be interested.
So this was Meg for the rest of the afternoon. I have to say. We were worried about her she has the crazy puppy streak that comes out once in awhile. She was on her very best behavior. Meg was certified sweet by the SPCA. They made a doggy classified basically for her. Yellow Sweet lab looking for possible lab friend. We’re on a list if that special dog comes in. Think this would work…
