The garden needs so much work. A slave to the garden in the spring is my lot in life. It’s hard enough to just plant a garden but to start from scratch on top of planting is exhausting. This Easter Bruce, my dad and I worked outdoors all morning and into the afternoon. Happy Easter to us! Around here you have to take advantage of a nice day and that we did! We ordered some bare root bushes and trees from Burgess this year. Think we planted 20+ privet bushes and 6 Blue Spruces. Now as taxing as that may sound you have to remember our soil is perfect if I was a potter since it’s all clay. Each hole needs digging then shoveling good dirt into the hole. To dig and not see clay would be a wonderful concept.
Since it’s more fun to see what hopefully the garden will look like in a couple years I whipped up a nice quick little animation. We need the inspiration! We have the trees planted and they survived the winter which I will notch off as a a gardening win if anyone is taking score. The privets in the front our half planted and the side privets are half planted. When things in our nurseries start to pick up I plan to mix some of bare root with actual larger plants. One set of hydrangeas are planted in the front. Next is a garden gate maybe this year?? Then one day a pergola… Yeah I think he needs a pergola too. This week we have snow in the forecast once again- Joy!!!
One handsome pup was helping us dig holes.
Four Feet distance look at all those holes Bruce got to dig.
Surprise Surprise Clay!
My job plopping the root in and covering with better dirt.
Three cheers to my month of yoga and downward dogs to let me move up and down.
Voila! Privet Bush Planted!
Sawyer is supervising the work. “I think I could help dig this hole for you dad?”
I have to say I’m kinda of glad it’s raining this morning so I can have a little day of rest and just work in the studio.
