Feeling way behind on my spring seeds this year with the destruction and mayhem of the greenhouse… but I’m only a few weeks off. News on the street is the greenhouse is being resurrected today with new supports. Bruce has it put together in the barn again and all the parts are accounted for so here’s to putting some lettuce and spinach out in the greenhouse by tomorrow.
Big Tree Nursery is on call for some compost for the gardens. Another to do for Bruce is to build some raised bed so we can better control our soil. Shopping for dirt is like a big stick in the eye. Kitchen refuse of all types, sorts and colors have been diligently collected to help bolster our own composting. It will be nice when we can start relying on our own compost. I was leafing through some of my old Martha Stewart Living magazines for March and she had an article on composting and her black gold. Super ENVIOUS!
This years seeds we got from Johnny Select Seeds, Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company and Monticello Shop. As a graphic designer, I can’t help but be lured in with the Baker Creek marketing. Request one of their catalogs and you’ll want everything too. I got the rainbow garden collection. I’m thinking this year to have each 4ft square be a different color for the rainbow effect.
Also, trying Cleomes this year. I got a pack from Baker Creek and one from Monticello. My mom’s wanted them for a couple years and we can never find them in our local nurseries. Hopefully, they’ll grow since I promised her them for Mother’s Day.
Yesterday, I escaped and went to The Gift Exchange on 8th Street. An unexpected surprise to find a cute little shop with cute treasures. I can’t wait to put these in the garden. Next week they’re having an open house for their two year anniversary? Two years and the first time I’ve been. Shame on me!
